Documentary Description

Disappeared in 2006, Roger Capron left behind a remarkable creative universe.
His work, his encounters, his collaborators, his energy, and his love of life make his journey a formidable adventure, a true immersion in post-war France in Vallauris that will lead him to the dawn of the 21st century.
From his childhood in Île-de-France before World War II, we will follow him to the School of Applied Arts in Paris and then to the south of France in Vallauris where he started in ceramics. From his rapid rise in the 1950s, 60s, to the bankruptcy of his company in the 1980s, we will see how this determined and tireless man will regain success in the 2000s.

"There was still no film that paid tribute to the man he was and brought his story to the attention of the widest possible audience.
I had long thought of honoring the work and life of my grandparents through a modern cinematic biography.
My intention was to make a film highlighting the historical, geographical, and artistic contexts that served as the engine for a whole generation of which Roger was one of the leaders, a reference document, supported by the people who surrounded him, the films and photographs from our archives but also the objective and benevolent story of a whole family.
Roger Capron, who was a workaholic, also owes his success to his wife and collaborator Jacotte, who naturally occupies a central position in the film, as well as Jean Derval and many others."

Lambert Capron, grandson of Roger and Jacotte, producer and director of the film

This unpublished film plunges us into the universe of one of the most prolific ceramists of the 20th century, guided like many artists by the euphoria and creative effervescence of the post-war period in the heart of the sweetness of the French Riviera. Bringing together testimonies from relatives, collaborators, and friends, supported by family archives, the film also offers instructive information on many levels. Craftsman, entrepreneur, and artist, Roger Capron's energy and joy of life went beyond the scope of his professional activity, they defined him.
